Ultra Fast Post
December 28, 2012

No, the world didn't blow up, but I still love Marvin the Martian; take me to your leader you silly ET
The 1978 BMW left last weekend for her new home in Canton, OH. I miss her already. Where is the next one? Cary? Oriental? Swanannoa? Don't know if the next one will be another sport touring RT1150 or the C1200 Bond bike. Stay tuned.
Oh, and Merry Christmas; don't want to spoil any Christmas secrets, but now you know where peppermint balls originate. My wife shared this with me, I normally don't subscribe to scatological humor.
And we had a fun Christmas with family and friends. Jay, Jackson and I went to the Belk Bowl and although Duke lost it was a great time and an exciting game.
Next week: the Highs visit for New Years Eve and there will be no pictures! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

This Post Is A Day Early, But Why?
December 20, 2012

Why indeed! Probably because according to the Mayan calendar the earth ends tomorrow. If they were so smart then why didn't they foresee the end of their own empire? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm? Anyway, here is the weather forecast for this week:
With apologies to The Divnyls, the group who sang this song twenty-one years ago. Yes, I had to look that up, and it is hard to believe that was in 1991. Catchy tune, try not to think about it.
Always good to see a picture of these three people when they're not ducking under a funeral tent. The occasion was Betsy's son's wedding reception. Very nice, but I'll always remember that night listening to Duke drive down the field to beat the professional team from Chapel Hell.
A living nativity scene from First Presbyterian church of Sanford. Jay is performing as one of the wise men, a real stretch for a Riley, while Cooper plays the shepherd who waves at cars as they pass. Speaking of automobiles in the Bible; wonder if they came in one Accord? Speaking of Biblical jokes, I'll never forget the one our Sanford pastor told me one night: When was menopause mentioned in the Bible? After Christ was born Mary and Joseph had to leave to escape Herod and she rode his ass all the way to Egypt. Hit "like" if you know what that is like.......................oops, forgot this isn't Facebook. And I guess I forgot how to operate my I-pad, oops, not an I-pad it's an Etch-A-Sketch, and oops, looks like we're out of scotch.
Last week on SNL there was a children's choir who sang "Silent Night." Difficult to listen to  the last two lines without thinking about those poor children and their families in Connecticut. What is wrong with us? And Tina Fey was on there briefly, always stay for that smirk on 30 Rock, last season you know.
So to cheer myself up, I went to see our church preschool's Christmas play. Funny to watch these preschool children and be reminded of our own sons' contemporaries. I even saw a couple of children who reminded me of kids I knew as a child. Enjoy, and pay particular attention to the two young ladies in the front who seem to have their own thing going.
In the words of Lennon "and so this is Christmas", as a reminder, just in case the Earth still exists Friday, there are only three shopping days until Christmas, so get out there and buy those gift cards quickly before they're all gone; kind of our way of saying "buy it your damn self"
Merry Christmas

Still............On The Road
December 13, 2012

Another 10 minute post from a hotel in Indianapolis
Started in Green Bay this week, here is a picture of the frozen Tundra.......get it?
Not a funny picture here, this oil furnace is in the lobby of one of our customers. Oil had to be poured into an integral tank, hard to believe isn't it? Vann and Minnie Neal had a similar one
Frozen Tundra, get it? OK, next slide please.....oh the dromedary!
I dare you, I double dare you.............well spoken Jules
Oh this was a concert? I thought it was a sound check (crickets chirping in the distance) Get it? Frozen Tundra.............no wait sorry we've moved on. Testing.....1.....2.....1.....2.....1....2
Saw a little of the concert last night, the Rolling Stones did Jumping Jack Flash, unreal. The Who did a few too, Pete Townsend is deaf but still plays the guitar, wonder if the chords light up for him. Oh, and Roger Daltry looks like an ugly Ellen DeGeneres
Is there anyone I have yet to offend? No? So t'is the season........................
Heading home tomorrow, get to Morehead about 10, go get the Dinkmobile and pick up Jackson in DC. Sorry you had a bad day buddy. And in other news guess what? TAR rode on the back of the BMW for about 40-some miles last Sunday. I think she enjoyed it right up to the part where her boot heels melted into the tailpipes....................
In town next week? I think so

Pearl Harbor Day
December 7, 2012

As younger generations emerge I can only guess this day will mean less and less; it still means a lot to people my age whose parents were directly affected by it.
In Georgia this past week selling humidifiers in short sleeves at Christmastime. I'm not that good.....
I've decided I really like that picture of Jay and Jackson, probably going to stay with it for a while, or at least until, oh there goes a shiny butterfly! What were we talking about?
TAR has the house looking like a Norman Rockwell painting, very nice, so let's look at another way of decorating shall we?
Yoda poor.........................
Saw this in Kinston this week, not sure if it was really an original Corvette or not, my rep in Atlanta told me they made some repli-cars for this. It certainly didn't look perfect enough to be an original, almost looked like a daily driver which would be kinda hard to believe, but who knows?
Always one in every crowd. We had a neighbor who had a yellow lab that was medicated for this reason. We traded dog duties when on vacation, Anytime I fed her she jumped around me constantly barking; one day she fell over and didn't move. Uhhhhhh-ohhhhhhhhhhhh, the Hollar family isn't going to like this! But after I rubbed her for a while she jumped up and resumed her frantic pace. Her face always looked sorta like this..................
To this I would add "with my mouth hanging open" Yes, middle age is a wonderful time, it reminds me of the story about the .............oh, there goes another pretty butterfly......................
Heading off to Milwaukee early Monday morning, home late Friday night and then off to DC early Saturday morning to pick up Jackson. I'll get some sleep when I'm dead.
Oh, the first picture? The Wreath of Khan

Lots and Lots of Pictures
November 30, 2012

A whole o lot of pictures this week as I try for my 10 minute limit on creating this post; or, lots of hat and no cowboy.
Over Thanksgiving I saw the five second rule morph into the OWTH rule. In other words "the food is good, my plate over-floweth, and I'm eating what I dropped on the floor" Now you know the reason for the five second rule:
Now you also know the thought process your dog is thinking:
I think I also saw this regarding sexual relations somewhere:
Read the back of the shirt, good for him, out there trying; let's all hum the Rocky theme

Now I'll never get to sleep wondering about things like this, and why did everyone call Gilligan by his last name? And how could the professor make a radio from a coconut but was apparently clueless as to how to fix a hole in the USS Minnow?
And last Tuesday was Terri's 39th birthday, we went to see Lincoln, or at least she did anyway. I always ask her to lower her voice (to zero) during a movie, but during the previews I saw one for OZ: The Great and Powerful, screamed "flying monkeys!" and ran out of the theater. This is a pattern of behavior dating back to seeing Maleficent the first time, ended up dodging cars on Sunset Avenue. Not that Dink noticed until after the movie was over.......................

I saw this picture on the internet. Imagine jumping out of an airplane? Imagine having a dog jump with you? Somehow or another I got a feeling one of these were pushed or thrown..........but they're heroes in my book.
Wonder how it feels to ride a motorcycle at speed? Watch the T-Mobile ad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0eML7aphSc
Kind of like that. I love it.
Georgia next week.

We Give Thanks
November 23, 2012

So long old friends, but with all of the preservatives in each one of these I'll bet that 10 year supply you have stashed away will still look and taste the same in 2022 as they do now.
 Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, too subtle?
And my friend Rod was told to wear a collared shirt, so he did:
Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels to all

Picture, Just Pictures
November 16, 2012

And of course there will always be some commentary
From Asheville NC, odd name for a store don't you think? Didn't know they still had video stores but with a name like that, well what the..........heck?
Grandma's house on Meadows Town Road, Lower Sandy Mush, NC.....not to be confused with those uppity folks from Upper Sandy Mush
Pink's, from the City of Lost Angels. Lunch last Sunday, pretty fair eating followed by a ride through Malibu, Beverly Hills, Sunset Boulevard, Mulholland Drive (want to hear my impression of Terri during that ride? SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWW DOWNNNNNNN), and then on to see my tailor on Rodeo Drive. His name is Carl and he works at the Wal-Mart, good guy, ask for him
Our casa for a few days in Palm Springs, well actually it was San Mateo's casa at La Quinta, no, not the one behind the Cracker Barrel
Tuesday afternoon we had a short break, took the tram up to San Jacinto state park, awesome vistas
Had to go see a doctor before I left to "fly" home, my wrist still hurts
Yeah, we cool....................
And this is just plain old funny
And I finished Kerouac's The Road; guess what? I still don't get it, dig? Next week: holiday pictures and no obscenities or questionable lifestyle choices!

All Over The Place
November 8, 2012

Thoughts from literally all over the place:
On NASCAR Sirius Radio: former NASCAR Truck Series driver Kimi Raikkonen won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend............former NASCAR Truck Series driver? You kidding? Yes, he drove for one of the Busch boys. What a great driver, just make sure you keep him out of the bars on Saturday night, he might blow a 0.12 the next day. Congratulations to Lotus on their first win in a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnng time. Great to see that team logo out front.
Bumper sticker seen in Asheville today "Eat Rich People, The Other White Meat." Saw a lot of flannel clad hairy legged women in that beautiful city. Used to think I might end up in that area one day. After lunch I drove out to my Grandma's sister's house; there was a gate closing off the driveway, decided against opening it. Picture next week............
Lady Gaga donated $1,000,000 to the Red Cross for the victims of Sandy, very nice.
Paraphrased quote from Howard Stern today: the habitat for reality shows are human zoos, people come by and stare at the oddities. Well said King of All Media
Who really understood this picture from the 70's? Well, maybe with a little PhotoShop help
Observed on I-40 near Winston-Salem; wonder if the driver is on his way to the Barrett-Jackson auction? I have a distorted sense of automotive styling, but I always thought this modified fastback style was attractive, same with the Vega. How many redundant comments is that? I have a sinking feeling the owner thinks he is sitting on a gold mine.
I've got one of these at home. Beautiful woman, sleeps like a homeless drunk. I'm going to look into my future and wager that I will regret typing that................
Did a little fishing last weekend with the FO, caught some quality fish none the least of which were these toads, blowfish, puffers, whatever you want to call them. No, they're not poisonous.
Afterwards one happy diner, reminds me of a cat from the comics.........
Hope she forgives me for the sleeping hobo comment; if it makes her feel better my (unnamed) niece sleeps like a drunken sailor.
And I guess I've offended enough people for one night, guess that is what happens when I blog on Thursday night. I have a 7:30 AM meeting in Greenville SC Friday, and a 3:30 PM meeting in Morehead. Gentlemen, start your engines.............
Off to Palm Springs for the AHRI meeting Saturday. Follow our industry at http://www.ahrinet.org

The Way I See It........................
November 2, 2012

Jay in high falutin political circles; the other guy is Pat and he's runninnnnn for govnah............, and I wish him well. I think he will do a good job running this state.

It's all a matter of perspective; how do you look at things?
Then of course there is also a potential dark side to perspective
Think that sounds scary? Well, actually it was a scary movie; but then again you didn't have to deal with the Wicked Witch of the West living in your parents' closet like I did.
Good luck to all of your favorite candidates, and happy birthday to our favorite daughter in law; we are mighty lucky to have you in the family.

Monopoly Games

Not a clear image among them this week, sorry.....but they are good shots so I'm throwing them out there regardless.
Welcome to earth Grace Ann (e?) Riley, and congratulations to Caroline, Heather and Kevin!
The Greensboro reception was first class, beautiful hotel called the O.Henry, good food, didn't know hardly anyone there but had fun nonetheless. Listened to a rare Duke win over the tar babies on the way home, great night.
First an opposing view about Jackson's new friend. I didn't watch much of the debate but I thought he did a good job.
And now a picture from Jackson's new friend. Not really his new friend, but she was at the Custis House while he was at work and he gave her a tour of a closed section of the house. She's my favorite of all of the Juggs family, last time I saw her was on The Soup and she was eating ice cream or dessert while being interviewed. Jackson said she was a nice lady, and her husband can sure enough wheel a race car.

And now a closeup of little Annabel. I zoomed in a bit so you could see her resemblance to Cooper. That red hair scares me.
And a great shot of young Keelyn. Beautiful smile, pretty hair, blurry picture.
Got my wish! While in Fairfax I got to see Jackson. He looks great and seems to be having a wonderful time in DC.
O. Henry specialized in irony; an example please.....how about the fact that Monopoly games are only manufactured by one company?
Good trip this week, again in VA; at home this coming week for Halloween and Sandy

Condoms

Condoms? Yes, condoms. We've come a long way from asking the pharmacist behind the counter for condoms haven't we? Let's see, BIC pen, comb, toothpaste, dozen Trojans.................yeah, I think that's all I need.
Anyway two condom thoughts occurred to me within one week: someone I knew told me their father ran a service station in the 50's and 60's and had a condom machine in both the men's and women's bathrooms. He never filled the machine in the women's room and never got a single complaint. Just quarters, lots and lots of quarters at 100% margin.
The other thought came to me while urinating and reading the condom machines. They are $1.00 now, who has four quarters in his pocket anyway? But while I perused the selections I thought "you know, you don't ever see anyone buying any of these." Why? Is it because it might be a little embarrassing to reach into your pocket (only to find 1, 2, or 3 quarters) and have to ask the guy next to you to spot you a quarter? Might be a little awkward; hey I'm kinda busy here. I'm not good at multi-tasking, so if someone were to ask me I'd probably pee on my shoes, and maybe his. Maybe if they put them in the stalls they would get more business. Or maybe there are no condoms in the machine, they make 100% GM and I think too much about too many things.
But speaking of condoms.......................
Oh Bill................
And one of my favorite George Harrison songs:

And a nice picture of Jackson and Bob Schieffer; he's a good journalist, Jackson told me he brought Lee Harvey Oswald's mother to the police station as a reporter for a Texas newspaper. He phoned in stories while pretending to be a detective and the newspaper was able to create four "extras" that day in part thanks to his work. If you're under 50 you'll have to look up what an "extra" was; no, it is not a non-speaking role on television. And the reason for Bob's laughter is that he realized Jackson was wearing orange trousers.

Pretty work and no political message in this blog and I support this message.
Greensboro reception Saturday night, teach Sunday School Sunday morning (who signed me up for this?) In Tidewater area VA next week, end up Wednesday and Thursday in northern VA. Sure would like to see that little boy of mine...............

Dueling Banjos No, the odd looking young man did not play the banjo in the movie, here is how the movie-magic people did it: Fake sleeves !!...
