Is This It? (are we there yet?)
March 8, 2013

Are we there yet? Who knows, might be.
Good week cut semi-short by snow and ice in VA. I made it to Lynchburg and found the city nearly shut down by the snow; or did they hear the Yankees were coming? Managed to get to Farmville Wednesday night and saw Jackson.
For next summer he's trying to figure out how to:
a) find an intern position in DC
b) pay for housing and food in his non-paying job in DC
c) stay the heck out of Morehead City
d) all of the above
It was a good although brief visit.Richmond got hit harder than expected by the snow.
I love these guys to pieces, home made joke there, anyone get it? A good pun is its own re-word.
For the fans of 2001: A Space Odyssey

Now for some Pope-pourri..........................Looking for a new Pope? Two words: Steve Martin, he's already got the clothes and I think he can fake the Latin

Where do I find this stuff? Beats me, especially during Lent. And that might be all I have to say.

Springtime Is Coming
March 1, 2013

I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, warm weather must be headed our way at some time. Ready when you are....................and we're waiting.
Told you Kyle Larson would either win or knock a fence down; scary scene at Daytona last week. I think the only way to make automobile racing completely safe is to eliminate both the cars and the spectators. Otherwise, well every now and then the dark side of the sport rears its ugly head and strikes. So sad, never supposed to happen that way but then again there are a lot of things in everyone's lives which are not fair. Hope the people that were hurt heal quickly.
Nicu was here last week. Told us about having to put support into one of his rental properties so he installed a stainless steel pole, thought the occupants might be using it for other things. From the wit of Whitney Cummings " ladies a stainless steel pole in your house is not a workout, it is when things don't work out." Thank you Whitney, we'll be in touch.
We're always looking for something new or better. Had a friend who wanted to live near the community pool, but once he did he couldn't wait to move away. Be careful what you wish for, and by the way his name was Marco Polo........thank you John, don't sit by the phone.
I watched the Oscars last week, the whole thing. Yes, the Oscars, feel free to read that line again. I'll wait. Yes, the Oscars, the first time in forever. I had my brother's hand me down pants and Jackson's Topsiders he threw away onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn, although no one asked me. We go to the movies more than ever now and had some interest in how things would go; however the real reason was to watch Seth McFarland. Great job Seth, but from his remarks this week it doesn't appear as though we will see him again. I really liked his song and dance routines. Still a little too soon for the John Wilkes Booth comment?
Why can't you trust an atom? Because the make up everything.
Now for pictures, because I know that's why you tune in each and every week:
Maybe duct tape can't be used for everything:
Turned the arrow right back at myself, does this saying make my ass look too big?
Rocking Rod on a great big ass wave.
VA next week, maybe a quick catch up with Jackson while I'm out

Short Entry
February 22, 2013

No time, I gottttta gottttta got no time. Got the bike to Chesapeake for its annual and 36,000 mile updates and came home in the cold and dark last night. Figured that would be the wiser decision, sleet and snow were forecast for this morning and although I am a novice rider I think I'm better in the dark than in any type of precipitation, especially the frozen variety. The ride home was quite nice except that riding in the dark, especially when behind another vehicle worries me. Well riding in the dark doesn't worry me, seeing or worse yet not seeing something on the road surface, anything from a dead animal to debris worries me. The fog light throw extra light low on the surface and are very helpful.Bundled up well and had a good ride, didn't really get chilly until about 8:00 when I stopped at a rest area. For some reason getting off the bike cooled me off. Live and learn.

So this week's entry for your consideration........................................
.......this is Don Pardo

..............he turned 95 today. Tell him what he's won!
Ces't tout!

Okay Okay Okay
February 16, 2013

OK SWMBO, pictures of our grandchildren:

Followed by a picture of..............................let's call him Spock. His French name was sheeeethaid. Saw this in one of them there fancy shmancy magazines, really does look like him with the black spots. Interesting dog, I can see my MIL making her "face" when she talks about him. Somehow or another she thinks he was the ugliest dog ever. Funny how people's taste runs.....and that's all I'm going to say about that.
Look! Disney commented on Rocky Mount! Not sure that's a very positive comment about my hometown, but funny nonetheless
This cat is rail purdy. OK I'll stop
Insert your own caption here
And now you know the rest of the story about the meteor...............
Rode over 400 miles on the bike Friday, needed a day to let the wind clear my head. The bike runs well and is scheduled for its annual and 36,000 mile service next week. Oh well, we didn't need anything to eat for the next few months. Good thing it's fast, that will help when I rob the banks to pay..
Said goodbye to Allie Ruth Winstead and Beth Lockhart this week. Allie was 94 and Beth was 37 with three children, the youngest is one year old. That was a very sad funeral. And again, that's all I'm going to say about that.

Florida Trip
February 9, 2013

What's rarer than seeing a MGB-GT riding down the road?
The correct answer is seeing two MGB-GTs riding down the road, and for extra credit, neither was on the back of a flatbed The story gets even stranger, they weren't together, must have been a rally somewhere.
Last week this guy got in trouble.
For making a comment comparing this guy to a space monkey.
See the resemblance? Neither do I, and I think a United States senator should be more careful about his words. Words often hurt, and I've been told Ahmadinejad was so upset by this insult that he threw his feces outside his cage.
Remember this guy. Kyle Larson. He's either going to knock every NASCAR fence down or be a champion in the future. He will drive in the Nationwide series next year, not for the best of the teams, but this guy has a boatload of talent. He'll be the KY that the Fishin Optishin likes. Wait a second, that sounded funny. Not that kind of funny, never mind
In New York a federal corrections officer was arrested for having sex with an inmate. Not only having sex, but getting pregnant. Oh, and it gets worse: the convict is a two time cop killer. Since prisoners are not able to have sex, pause for joke insert, she was arrested for sexual abuse and could face up to 15 years in prison. The affair lasted four months before someone blew the whistle.
The USPS will no longer offer Saturday delivery. It is still hard to believe they can deliver a letter nationally for $0.46. Sure the comedians all take their shots, but does anyone else want to do that for less than fifty cents? Still can't help but believe Lance Armstrong is involved in this, insert your homemade jokes here____________________________
The oldest known paratrooper was correct, this Cobra repli-car is polished aluminum. Want to hear it? Here is goes..............
Let's see, have I offended anyone in here? Ah yes relatives! Do you think incest is hereditary? Well the very fact that you're...........again, never mind. Best leave that one as a one-liner.
And Gomer really was gay all along. Well shazaaaaaam.
In town all week

Do It Your Self
February 2, 2013

Busy week, write your own captions
Here, I'll start
Next door neighbor's car; not enough that he flies Pedro, he also has this Panoz race car and a stainless Cobra repli-car
Recorded this in my hotel room in Dallas, you might need to put the buds in to hear it, what is funny is Steve's comment at the end.
Yes, stainless
Two dogs in complete control of the pickup at Wal-Mart, complete control. They looked happy.
Say WHAT one more time, sorry, can't get past the murder thing. I hope the 50 minus one team beat the black birds. (Did I say Blackbirds)? Listen for it Sunday too.
Rocking Rod in Hawaii, my hero
Good time in Dallas this week but I did not accomplish the goals I set. Dink has been twisted up, OK, I threw her out of her wheelchair and then tried to run over her. Sprained ankle and sucking up ALL of the oxygen in the room, her prognosis is she may possibly become a spoiled diva.
In Florida all next week, let me know if you want some fruit, or wrinkled up Yankees. I'm guessing the fruit has a better chance.

A Little More Time This Week
January 25, 2013

I worked in South and North Carolina this week and got home on Wednesday night rather than late in the week, so maybe this effort will be a little better. Well the effort will be better, we'll have to see about the results.
Thought about this guy...................
............when I saw this guy died. Can you figure out a connection? Neither can I, but there is a joke in there somewhere which deals with Eb saying "DAD" and Conrad Bain saying "I'm not your father" Help complete this thought please.................It's in there somewhere.

Found this at a customer's in Florence SC, yeah go figure, the caption said "when you're in deep shit look straight ahead, act like you know what you're doing, and keep your mouth shut." That must be from the Old Testament.
Found this picture while looking for something else, I do that a lot; decided to write a song about it. Its called "THIS Is How You Solve a Problem Like Maria"

In other news scientists are investigating how to put digital information into your DNA. If you're still trying to come up with the joke from Green Acres you can rest....for a bit. No kidding, here it is from the New York Times:
Download It to My DNA: Scientists have found a way to store data on fragments of DNA, a technique that eventually may provide a way to handle the overwhelming data of the digital age, reports The Wall Street Journal. In anexperiment published in the journal Nature, scientists used DNA to store an audio clip of Martin Luther King Jr.'s “I Have a Dream” speech, Shakespeare’s 154 sonnets and other data. They later were able to retrieve them with 99.99 percent accuracy. While current data storage methods can degrade or require a constant supply of electricity, DNA is stable and durable and could be used as a storage device for thousands of years. A cup of DNA theoretically could store about 100 million hours of high-definition video.
What do you want in your DNA? I thought a copy of "Video Killed The Radio Star" would be appropriate. No video posted, sorry, you all know what that song sounds like, and you're probably humming it right now, and for the rest of the day.

I heard you on the wireless back in Fifty Two
Lying awake intent at tuning in on you.
If I was young it didn't stop you coming through.

No no no, you're welcome!
Anyone out there I haven't offended lately? How about the District of Columbia? I read this week where a group of Native Americans sued because they considered the NFL team Washington Redskins an offensive term. Seems as though the owners are considering changing the name to the Maryland Redskins.......................ba boom!
And in other writing good tips:

  • Profanity sucks
  • One word sentences? Eliminate!
  • Analogies are like feathers on a snake

And from 30 Rock:
Q: How are you doing?
A: I'm doing good...........
A2: Batman does good, you're doing well!
Thanks Miss Murk.
Now tell us about the hens and prostitutes.

Still working on the Eb/Conrad Bain joke? Yeah, me too; but everytime I think of Green Acres I think of Mrs. Douglas walking around in next to nothing, and no one ever noticed except Ralph Monroe, and he was a she. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Off to Dallas this weekend, lots to do and I would appreciate a good luck wish.

Juneau ??? Alaska !!! Alaskan Adventure 2026   Thursday, June 6 : We left Morehead City midday and drove to Cary. Elizabeth and Jackson were...
